Finish the Northwoods Historic District Topper Project

The Northwoods Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in May 2014, having been established in 1952 as affordable housing for workers at Doraville’s GM plant. This designation reflects the neighborhood’s unique role in Georgia’s post-war suburban development.

In 2018, NANA initiated a grassroots effort to install historic street sign toppers in the district. This project was partially funded through a small Cross Keys Initiative grant and generous contributions from residents.

Unfortunately, due to limited resources, only half of the district received signage, and no further progress has been made since then.

In 2026, we are finishing what we started in 2018.

Based on an updated quote from the original vendor, due to inflation and other reasons, the remaining project cost is approximately $5,000 to purchase and install 20 additional toppers. This cost is double what it cost in 2018. We are currently seeking matching grant opportunities to minimize the amount needed to be raised by the community. If received, the fundraising goal will be updated accordingly.

Completing this project will ensure that streets in every neighborhood in the district will be marked with uniform, historically themed toppers, reinforcing neighborhood identity and educating visitors about our community’s significance.

Your support will help us preserve a piece of Georgia’s history and strengthen the sense of pride in our community. Every contribution brings us closer to completing this important project.
